Vessels Of Honor – Gleaning – Part 2

Christian believers are tied in with the heroes of faith from the time of Abel through the prophets and kings to the closing of the Old Testament. Just as each one of the heroes discovered the grace of God in their failures and endured the chastening of the Lord, so also did the members of the church.

To glean is to gather (leftover grain or other produce) after a harvest and the practice goes back to Mosaic law (Leviticus 19:10). A more modern definition would be to collect gradually and bit by bit or extract (information) from various sources. We see an example of this practice in Ruth chapter 2 as Ruth goes to glean in a field of Boaz, a relative of her mother-in-law, Naomi. This act brings about events that had eternal significance. We’ll look into some of the gleaning that Mike found in the fields of Faith Family Church and his devotional life. May we too find eternal significance in this endeavor? We pray so!

Part 2 – We look into a teaching on obedience. Looking at obedience’s birth in an authority structure and it’s only operation is inside of submission. How this leads to what Carrie Pickett commented, that “True vision goes beyond now into eternity and must be released through obedience”. She also stated “Every act of obedience bears fruit”. Let’s glean some spiritual fruit as we obey the disciplines of God!
