The Epistle Of Joy – Part 9

Philippians is known as the Epistle of Joy. Paul’s first encounter with the people of Philippi is found in Acts 16 where Paul received a vision of a gentleman from Macedonia asking him to come over there. Philippi was a chief city of Macedonia. It is referred to as a colony, a colony was a Roman city for their war veterans. The people of Philippi were not Jews but gentiles. The theme of Philippians is Joy in the midst of every situation. Paul suffered imprisonment, yet he had joy. This joy is above and beyond what the world can have or understand.

Part 9 – Tonight we discuss verses 18 and 19.  First, we look to the fact that in the midst of suffering you will stay strong by keeping your heart right with God and man.  Paul declares in verse 18 “no matter the motivation of these preachers I will focus and rejoice in the fact that Christ is being preached.”  This perspective keeps our faith active.  In verse 19 we see again the faith of Paul expressed.  No matter the circumstance we find ourselves in through prayer and the supply of the spirit of Jesus Christ things will turn out for our deliverance!  Paul is not just trying to think positive, he says, “I know this will turn out for my deliverance.”  As children of God in church fellowship and fellowship with Holy Spirit, we can know and we should know what the Lord is saying in every situation!
