It Is Finished – Easter Sunday 2021
The Gospel of John 19:30 records, “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” NKJV
This phrase carries so much meaning for humanity. Jesus in His obedience to the Father at Calvary purchased total redemption for all humanity. We all need a Savior, Redeemer and His name is Jesus Christ.
“It Is Finished” in Greek means:
First, this statement was Jesus saying, Father, I have finished what you have asked me to do.
Second, this Greek word was the equivalent of the Hebrew word spoken by the high priest when he presented a sacrificial lamb without spot or blemish.
Third, this word was used in the secular or business world to signify the full payment of a debt.
Fourth, this word in Greek times meant a turning point when one period ended, and another new period began.
