Giving and Receiving (Part 8)

Phil 4:15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared (distributed, be a partaker, partnered) with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.  NKJV

I have heard it said and found it to be true myself, that if you want to quiet down a crowd in church just start talking about 1 of 3 subjects, “marriage, parenting or money.”  The Bible has plenty to say about all three.  In our relationship with the Lord we must not pick and choose the Scriptures we like but we must allow all the Scriptures in all areas shape our lives.  God gave us His words for our good not for our destruction.

The Bible will always bring balance to any subject.  We must remember to not just swallow what our favorite preacher says.  We must remember to put forth due diligence in studying and looking at the Scriptures for ourselves.  Our denominations can have good doctrine, but they can have traditions as well that replace the Word of God and of course make it of none effect in our lives.  In this series allow the Word of God to transform your mind and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in the Lord’s will.

Part 8 – In today’s message, I deal with the subject of the tithe.  I have been asked many times by people, “What should I give to the Lord financially?” I would never tell people what to give but I do believe the tithe is a good place to start.  Over the years I have heard arguments for and against the tithe, I do not want to argue in this message I present the Scriptures on why I tithe, I believe it is for us today and to be honest for Heidi and I we feel the tithe is a great place to start.  We aim to give more and more as the Lord increases us.

Here is a great list I read of motivations for giving in order of importance:

  1. Because I love God.

  2. Because I want to obey God.

  3. Because I want to support the Great Commission and the Church.

  4. Because I want to see people blessed.

  5. Because I am planting seeds for my own needs.
